In 1998, Newport Oregon's Kent Gibson found a brown rock while agate hunting. He tried to toss it aside, but his Labrador retriever kept bringing it back, so Kent tossed it into the back of his truck for the dog. The rock turned out to be a fossilized porpoise skull over 20 million years old and it changed the trajectory of Kent's life. More info...
At 9 years of age, Josh McInnes witnessed a "killer whale event" that changed his life. Fast forward to 2023 and Josh is now a marine ecologist specializing in the research of killer whales along the Pacific Northwest Coast for the University of British Columbia's Institute for the Oceans and Fisheries Marine Mammal Research Unit.
