If nothing is done to save Oregon's dunes, it is estimated that much of our open sand will be gone in less than 100 years. Follow me on social media to learn about the history, geology, and plight of our dunes. #savetheoregondunes

Patterns on the dunes are always changing thanks to rain and wind.
Ghost trees and ghost forests form when moving sand covers forests, causing trees to die. In some cases, these dead trees remain standing for some time before decomposing or being fully buried as dunes form in the area.
Wind moves the various colored grains of sand differently because some are heavier than others (often the darker grains are heavier). Add water to the mix (also impacting movement) and you get incredible beauty on the dunes.
